BACKGROUND & PURPOSE OF PROJECT
The TgPA (Tanjung Priok Access Road) currently being constructed forms a section of the JORR (Jakarta Outer Ring Road) which is part of the metropolitan toll road network. The TgPA will function as the primary access road to Tanjung Priok port, Indonesia's largest international trading port which is ranked 24th in the world for container handling volume. TgPA will be 12 km long and is designed to include 10 km of elevated bridge structures.
TgPA's construction schedule is broken up into Phase 1 and Phase 2. In Phase 1, detailed design works included the elevated toll road and an Intelligent Transport System (ITS).In Phase 1 construction works of TgPA Section E (approx. 5km) will be carried out. The construction of Sections W and NS, and the construction of facilities related to the "toll road network ITS" are planned for Phase 2.
CHARACTERISTICS, CONCEPT, STANCE & SKILLS OF PROJECT
The type of elevated bridge structures have been modeled on advanced Japanese technology including cable stayed bridge, steel box girders and pre-stressed concrete bridges which will help in transferring advanced bridge technology to Indonesia.
Also Japanese ITS will integrate people, roads and vehicles through the use of advanced information technology (IT). The advanced IT, that is, the technologies related to computer, sensor and telecommunication equipment, has expanded to a number of industries across the globe and is contributing to several transformations within the transportation system industry, and will bring gtreat efficiencies to Indonesia’s congested road transport systems.
This project aims to prove the validity of introducing Japanese toll road construction technology and ITS to solve the problems with urban transportation in Jabodetabek.
EFFECT OF PROJECT
TgPA is planned to connect the Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) to Tanjung Priok International Port and to have an essential role in economic and industrial activities in the central district of Indonesia, and is expected to play an integral part of the Jakarta-West Java tollway system with the following essential functions of the Jakarta Metropolitan network:
- To reduce serious traffic congestion, thereby contributing to sustainable urban activities
- To supplement the functions of radial toll roads and the Cengkareng Access
- To enhance physical distribution originating from Tg. Priok Port
- To support improved land use in the JABOTABEK metropolitan area.
