Protecting the land and people’s lives from natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and tsunamis is fundamental for securing people’s standard of living and industrial bases. The importance of this issue has increased in recent years due to the increasing severity of disasters.
We are engaged in facility design and planning for safety and security in various fields. We have many achievements in fields where high safety is required, such as rivers, dams, erosion control, coasts, and oceans. We are also working to minimize the damage brought about by disasters and to manage the disaster risk by prevention and mitigation.

River

River

Flood control measures are aimed to protect towns and people from flood damage. Combining hard measures such as levee maintenance and soft measures such as disaster management is crucial.
In addition, river development that meet the specific characteristics of the river and region is required. In particular, such development includes management of river water and groundwater utilization, preservation and restoration of natural environment, and creation of riverside spaces. Based on this background, we utilize the knowledge and latest technology we have cultivated so far to study and propose optimal solutions.

Dam

Dam

In Japan, many dams have been constructed as a flood control measure and to respond to the increasing demand for water resources. Further, dam construction in many countries around the world is underway.
The construction of a dam requires the unity of technological capabilities in multidisciplinary fields. Such cross-disciplinary technologies include flood control and water use plan, geological analysis of dam foundation, dam body design, water quality conservation of the dam’s lake, electrical control of facilities, mechanical facilities such as gates, countermeasures against sedimentation, etc.
Since we have been involved in many projects, we are able to provide safe and cost-effective services.

Sabo

Sabo

Sabo is a work that protects people’s lives and property from sediment-related disasters. These sediment disasters include debris flows, landslides, volcanic eruptions, and so on. Due to recent changes in meteorological phenomena, sabo work is becoming increasingly important. Based on our abundant experiences, we tackle various issues such as sabo survey, planning and design, and emergency response after a disaster. To come up with more effective solutions, we are also developing analysis skills such as sediment movement simulation and structural analysis. Other than working on the national and prefectural sabo works, we have been doing overseas sabo works for many years by adopting our domestic experiences.

Coast / Ocean

Coast / Ocean

Japan has a small land area, thus the population is concentrated on the coast and they are exposed to tsunamis, and high waves and high tides due to typhoons. Therefore, methods to defend against such situations is an important issue. The rise in sea level and huge typhoons due to global warming also need to be considered.
On the other hand, since coasts and oceans are biologically rich areas, appropriate conservation by considering the environment is crucial. Based on these two viewpoints, we work on problem solving while developing new technologies.

Disaster Risk Management

In recent years, large-scale natural disasters have frequently occurred in the “Disaster Archipelago Japan”. These disasters cannot be controlled by humans. It is our mission to create a safe and secure national land and to pass it to future generations.
Our principle in disaster risk management includes disaster prevention measures to prevent and reduce the damage as much as possible and put an effort on disaster preparedness. We propose comprehensive solutions for emergency measures to minimize and prevent damage and detailed consultation on measures for rapid recovery and reconstruction.
